Install dial indicator and extension on gearcase (1) and measure end play of worm gear shaft (2).
a. Correct end play is 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).
b. If end play is less than correct, remove bearing cap (item 17 of step 13) and add gaskets (item 18
of step 13) one at a time and remeasure until end play is correct.
Remove dial indicator.

Position new brake band (5) around drum (4) with caged nut (14) on the right side in housing (3).

Position spring (10) between brake band (5) and left side of housing (3), and install new O-ring (13),
washer (12), and screw (11). Ensure that screw (11) goes through spring (10), brake band (5), and
threads into caged nut (14). Tighten screw (11) until spring (10) length is 2.125-2.187 in.
(51.0-52.5 mm).

Position new gasket (6) and cover (7) on brake housing (4) and install with two screw-assembled
washers (8) in top holes and four screw-assembled washers (9) in bottom four holes of cover (7) and
brake housing (4).
