Install brake band (11) around automatic brake drum (9). Position cage nut (10) to left.

Position spring (12) between housing (5) and brake band (11) and install with lockwasher (8),

washer (7), and screw (6) through one end of brake band (11) into nut (10) until spring (12) is
compressed 1.125-1.187 in. (28-30 mm) in length.
Coat new gasket (15) with light film of GM grease and position on housing (5).

Position cover (14) over gasket (15) and install with six screw-assembled washers (13).

Coat outer diameter of seal (4) with sealing compound and install in drum (2).

Install drum (2) on drum shaft (1).

NOTE
Support drum with overhead hoist and chain.
Install thrust washer (3) on drum shaft (1). Ensure flat side of thrust washer (3) is against drum (2).

Align two new keys (17) so that end of keys (17) fit into thrust washer (3) and install two keys (17)

in drum shaft (16). Tap keys (17) lightly with mallet to seat them.
