WARNING
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic, Do not use near an
open flame and always have a fire extinguisher nearby when
solvents are used. Use only in well-ventilated places, wear
protective clothing, and dispose of cleaning rags in approved
container. Failure to do this may result in injury to personnel
and/or damage to equipment.
Compressed air source will not exceed 30 psi (207 kPa). When
cleaning with compressed air, eyeshields must be worn. Failure
to wear eyeshields may result in injury to personnel.

Clean all steering gear components with drycleaning solvent and dry with compressed air.
NOTE
Light polished areas on steering gear components indicate
normal wear.
Blue discoloration indicates overheating. Inspect carefully.
Replace all discolored parts.

Inspect steering gear housing (15) for cracks, nicks, and pitted and scored bore (16). Replace
steering gear housing (15) if cracked, nicked, or bore (16) is pitted or excessively scored.

Inspect input shaft (2) and bearing (3) for rough movement, discoloration, cracks, breaks, chipped
threads (17), and damaged splines (18). Replace input shaft (2) as one assembly if discolored,
cracked, broken, threads are chipped, or splines are damaged.
4.
Inspect output shaft (19) for cracks, breaks, damaged splines (20), and damaged gear teeth (21).
Replace output shaft (19) if damaged.
