CAUTION
Support piston during removal. Failure to do so may result in
damage to piston.

Remove piston (2) from steering gear housing (1).
Remove slipper seal (14), O-ring (13), and screen (18) from side of piston (2). Discard slipper

seal (14), O-ring (13), and screen ( 18).
Remove two backup rings (11) and O-rings (12) from side of piston (2). Discard backup rings (11)

and O-rings (12).
Using 0.078152 in. (2.0 mm) drill, drill out lockpin (22) from piston (2). Discard lockpin (22)

Remove piston plug (3) from piston (2).

Remove backup ring (4) and O-ring (5) from piston plug (3). Discard backup ring (4), O-ring (5), and

piston plug (3).
Using 0.078152 in. (2.0 mm) drill, drill out lockpin (21) from piston (2). Discard lockpin (21)

NOTE
Mark adjusting nut and piston for installation.
Do not remove nylon ball inserts.

Remove adjusting nut (7) from piston (2).
20.
Remove three nylon balls (6) from adjusting nut (7).
Remove two reversing springs (8) and valve (9) from piston (2). Discard reversing springs (7).

Remove valve positioning pin (20) from side of piston (2). Discard valve positioning pin (20).
Remove O-ring (19) from valve positioning pin (20). Discard O-ring (19).

CAUTION
Do not disturb adjusting nut in bottom of piston after removing
reversing springs.

Remove two reversing springs (10) from piston (2). Discard reversing springs (10).
25.
Remove valve seat (15), two check balls (16), spring (17), and valve seat (23) from piston (2). Discard
check balls (16).
