4-112. FRONT BRAKE ACTUATOR REPAIR (Contd)
d. Stationary Actuator Assembly
Keep all anchor parts together. Intermixing right and left plunger
parts will cause brake system damage.
NOTE
Apply a light film of grease, included with new parts kit, to all
metal parts, lips of seals, and plunger housing bores.
1.
Place a piece of tape over slots of two new anchor plungers (2) to protect lips of seals (1).
2.
Install two new seals (1) in double grooves of anchor plungers (2).
NOTE
Ensure correct anchor plunger, L or R, is installed in bore of
anchor housing.
3.
Align guide grooves (19) of anchor plungers (2) with guide screw holes (17) of anchor plunger
housing (16).
4.
Install anchor plungers (2) in anchor plunger housing (16). Using hammer and 1-3/4-in. (44.45-mm)
wrench socket, seat seals (1) in anchor plunger housing (16).
5.
Remove tape from anchor plungers (2).
6.
Install two new gaskets (15) and new guide screws (14) in anchor plunger housing (16) and anchor
plungers (2). Tighten guide screws (14) 15-20 lb-ft (20-27 Nm).
e . Adjustable Actuator Assembly
NOTE
Apply a light film of GAA grease to all parts prior to assembly.
1.
Align guide groove (3) of two new adjusting plungers (7) with adjusting paw1 holes (8) of adjusting
plunger housing (13).
2.
Install adjusting plungers (7) in adjusting plunger housing (13).
3.
Position two new adjusting sleeves (6) on adjusting plunger (7).
NOTE
Adjusting pawls have teeth and flats on one end and chamfered
edge on the other end. When performing step 4, ensure adjusting
paw1 is positioned with chamfer toward sleeve to align paw1 and
sleeve teeth.
4.
Install two new adjusting pawls (9) and new springs (10) in adjusting plunger housing (13) with two
new gaskets (11) and new hollow screws (12). Tighten hollow screws (12) 15-20 lb-ft (20-27 Nm).
5.
Using adjusting bolt (4), rotate adjusting sleeve (6) and check for proper teeth meshing. If teeth are
properly meshing, a clicking sound and ratchet feel will be indicated. Remove adjusting bolt (4).
6.
Position inner lip of two new plunger seals (5) over adjusting sleeves (6). Using hammer and 1-3/4-in.
(44.45-mm) wrench socket, seat outer ring of plunger seals (5) in adjusting plunger housing (13).
CAUTION
Do not bottom adjusting bolt against seal. Seal will be damaged.
7.
Install two new adjusting bolts (4) in adjusting sleeve (6). Tighten adjusting bolts (4) until heads are
showing above plunger seal (5).
8.
Install new wedge assembly (18) in back of adjusting plunger housing (13). Check for proper
operation of wedge assembly (18) and adjusting plungers (7).
