Rear brake spider removed (para. 3-184).
Torque wrench (Appendix E, Item 146)
MATERIALS/PARTS
Adjuster parts kit (Appendix D, Item 3)
Lint-free cloth (Appendix C, Item 21)
GAA grease (Appendix C, Item 28)
Masking tape (Appendix C, Item 75)
NOTE
Do not perform this procedure unless repair kit is available.
a. Disassembly
1.
Remove wedge assembly (1) from back of plunger housing (6). Discard wedge assembly (1).
2.
Remove guide screw (11) and gasket (12) from plunger housing (6). Discard guide screw (11) and
gasket (12).
3.
Remove hollow screw (10), gasket (9), spring (8), and adjusting paw1 (7) from plunger housing (6).
Discard hollow screw (10), gasket (9), spring (8), and adjusting paw1 (7).
4.
Remove anchor plunger (13) and seal (14) from plunger housing (6). Discard anchor plunger (13)
and seal (14).
5.
Remove adjusting bolt (2) from plunger housing (6). Discard adjusting bolt (2).
6.
Remove adjusting plunger seal (3), adjusting sleeve (4), and adjusting plunger (5) from plunger
housing (6). Discard adjusting plunger seal (3), adjusting sleeve (4), and adjusting plunger (5).
b. Cleaning and Inspection
Clean plunger housing (6) with lint-free cloth and inspect for cracks, breaks, chips, and pitting. Replace
entire spider if cracked, broken, chipped, or pitted.
