Front brake spider removed (para. 3-189).
Torque wrench (Appendix E, Item 146)
Anchor plunger kit (left) (Appendix D, Item 8)
Anchor plunger kit (right) (Appendix D, Item 7)
Adjuster parts kit (Appendix D, Item 3)
Lint-free cloth (Appendix C, Item 21)
Masking tape (Appendix C, Item 75)
GAA grease (Appendix C, Item 28)
NOTE
Twelve-degree wedge assembly should also be replaced when
repairing front brake actuator. It is not offered in any of these
Rockwell kits (TM 9-2320-272-24P).
Do not perform this procedure unless repair kit is available.
a. Adjustable Actuator Disassembly
NOTE
Rockwell does not make a repair kit for the front spider wedge
brake. The entire spider must be replaced. Individual parts are
available under a separate NSN.
1.
Remove wedge assembly (15) from back of adjusting plunger housing (11). Discard wedge assembly (15).
2.
Remove two hollow screws (10), gaskets (9), springs (8), and adjusting pawls (7) from adjusting
plunger housing (11). Discard hollow screws (10), gaskets (9), springs (8), and adjusting pawls (7).
3.
Remove two adjusting bolts (3), plunger seals (41, adjusting sleeves (5), and adjusting plungers (6) Prom
adjusting plunger housing (11). Discard adjusting bolts (3), plunger seals (4), adjusting sleeves (5), and
adjusting plungers (6).
b. Stationary Actuator Disassembly
1.
Remove two guide screws (12) and gaskets (13) from anchor plunger housing (14). Discard guide
screws (12) and gaskets (13).
2.
Remove two anchor plungers (1) and seals (2) from anchor plunger housing (14). Discard anchor
plungers (1) and seals (2).
c . Cleaning and Inspection
Wipe adjusting plunger housing (11) and anchor plunger housing (14) with lint-free cloth and inspect for
cracks, breaks, chips, and pitting. Replace entire spider assembly if adjusting plunger housing (11) or
anchor plunger housing (14) is cracked, broken, chipped, or pitted.
