4-20. ROCKER LEVER HOUSING AND PUSH TUBES MAINTENANCE (Contd)
Clean intake (1), exhaust (2), and injector (3) push tubes and inspect for cracks and bends. Replace
8.
if cracked or bent.
Coat ball end (7) of new adjusting screw (4) with Prussian blue and place ball end (7) into tube socket (5).
9.
NOTE
Perform steps 10 through 19 for intake, exhaust, and injector
push tubes.
Using hand pressure, rotate new adjusting screw (4) and check tube socket (5) wear area. Replace if
10.
tube socket (5) wear area is not 80 percent blued.
Clean six valve adjusting screws (4) and move new nut (6) full length of adjusting screw (4) by
11.
hand. Replace adjusting screw (4) if new nut (6) binds on threads.
Inspect ball end (7) of six valve adjusting screws (4) for flat spots with 1/4-in. (6.35-mm) radius
12.
gauge. Discard valve adjusting screws (4) if flat spots are noted.
Clean rocker lever housing (8) and inspect for cracks and breaks. Replace if cracked or broken.
13.
Inspect shaft bore (9) of rocker lever housing (8) for scratches. Replace rocker lever housing (8) if
14.
shaft bore (9) is scratched.
Using bore gauge, measure inner diameter of shaft bore (9) of rocker lever housing (8) at several
15.
points for wear. Replace rocker lever housing (8) if inner diameter is more than 1.125 in. (28.56 mm).
NOTE
Perform step 16 if plugs are to be replaced.
Remove rocker lever plugs (12) from rocker lever shaft (11). Discard rocker lever plugs (12) if
16.
cracked, pitted, or threads are damaged.
WARNING
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do not use near open
flame and always have a fire extinguisher nearby when solvents
are used. Use only in well-ventilated places, wear protective
clothing, and dispose of cleaning rags in approved container.
Failure to do this may result in injury or death to personnel and/or
damage to equipment.
Clean oil passages (10) of rocker lever shaft (11) with drycleaning solvent and brush and inspect.
17.
Replace rocker lever shaft (11) if scratched.
Measure outer diameter of rocker lever shaft (11) at several points for wear. Replace if outer
18.
diameter is less than 1.122 in. (28.50 mm).
Install rocker lever plugs (12) on rocker lever shaft (11). Tighten plugs (12) 50-70 lb-ft (68-95 N-m).
19.
Mark end of rocker lever plug to indicate setscrew hole (13) position.
