General mechanic's tool kit (Appendix E, Item 1)
l Parking brake set (TM 9-2320-272-10).
MATERIALS/PARTS
l Defrost and heat control handles closed
(TM 9-2320-272-10).
Two spring nuts (Appendix D, Item 672)
a. Removal
1.
Remove two screw-assembled washers (3) and bracket (2) from right side of engine compartment
cowl (1).
2.
Remove three clamps (10) and ducting hoses (7) from diverter (9) and three adapter flanges (8).
3.
Remove screw (23), clamp (22), and retaining clip (12) from defroster control cable bracket (13).
4.
Remove cotter pin (24), defroster control cable (25), and spring nut (26) from control rod (11).
Discard cotter pin (24) and spring nut (26).
5.
Remove screw (21), clamp (20), and retaining clip (15) from heater control cable bracket (14).
6.
Remove cotter pin (18), heater control cable (19), and spring nut (17) from control rod (16). Discard
cotter pin (18) and spring nut (17).
CAUTION
Hold personnel hot water heater and brackets in place during
removal of diverter. Both mount to firewall with same screws.
7.
Remove four screw-assembled washers (27), cage nuts (6), personnel hot water heater bracket (4),
and diverter (9) from firewall (5).
b. Installation
1.
Install diverter (9) on hot water heater bracket (4) and firewall (5) with four screw-assembled
washers (27) and cage nuts (6).
2.
Install bracket (2) to right side of engine compartment cowl (1) with two screw-assembled washers (3).
3.
Install three ducting hoses (7) on diverter (9) and adapter flanges (8) with three clamps (10).
4.
Install heater control cable (19) on control rod (16) with new spring nut (17) and new cotter pin (18).
6.
Install heater control cable (19) on heater control cable bracket (14) with clamp (20), screw (21), and
retaining clip (15).
7.
Install defroster control cable (25) on control rod (11) with new spring nut (26) and new cotter
pin (24).
8.
Install defroster control cable (25) on defroster control cable bracket (13) with clamp (22),
screw (23), and retaining clip (12).
