Keep fire extinguisher nearby when using
drycleaning solvent.
Gasket and seal set (Appendix D, Item 247)
Steering parts kit (Appendix D, Item 678)
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do

not use near open flame.
Lubricating oil (Appendix C, Item 48)
Compressed air source will not exceed 30 psi

NOTE
Use a clean, protected work surface for steering gear
disassembly, repair, and assembly.
High-pressure seal and washer are obsolete.
Ensure high-pressure seal kit, P/N 2370461, is available before
performing procedure.
1.
Remove two relief valve plungers (10) from cylinder head (3) and bearing cap (7).
2.
Remove two O-rings (11) from relief valve plungers (10). Discard O-rings (11).
3.
Remove eight screws (13) and lockwashers (12) from output shaft cover (14) and steering gear
housing (5). Discard lockwashers (12).
4.
Using crocus cloth, remove any rust or scale from exposed shaft, except splines, on output shaft and
gear (16).
NOTE
Mark output shaft cover and housing for installation.
5.
Remove output shaft cover (14) from steering gear housing (5).
6.
Remove O-ring (15) from output shaft cover (14). Discard O-ring (15).
