Rotate wormshaft (2) until rack piston (1) is at center of steering gear travel.
CAUTION
When installing sector shaft, do not pinch new side cover gasket.

Align center tooth of sector shaft (7) to third notch from seal ring end of rack piston (1) and slide
sector shaft (7) into gear housing (3).

Install new gasket (4) and side cover (6) on gear housing (3) with six screws (5). Using a criss-cross
pattern, tighten screws (5) 150 lb-ft (203 Nm), followed by tightening to 210-240 lb-ft. (298-326 Nm).
CAUTION
The words OIL SIDE must be visible once the two-piece seal is
assembled in trunnion cover. Otherwise, seal will not function,
which could result in a loss of power steering assist.

Install new plastic backup washer (12), new two-piece seal (11), and new O-ring (10) in trunnion
cover (9).
36.
Ensuring that OIL SIDE of two-piece seal (11) faces housing (3), slide trunnion cover (9) carefully
over serrated end of sector shaft (7) and install on gear housing (3) with four screws (8). Tighten
screws 15-22 lb-ft (20-30 Nm).
