Wipe thrust ring (1) clean and inspect for cracks and wear. Measure thickness with micrometer.
Discard thrust ring (1) if cracked or if thickness measurement is less than 0.049 in. (12.5 mm).
Wipe clutch (2) clean and inspect where clutch (2) engages drum (4). Replace if cracked or chipped.

Clean thrust ring (3) and inspect for cracks and wear. Measure thickness with micrometer. Discard
if cracked or if thickness is less than 0.486 in. (12.3 mm).

Clean drum (4) and inspect for breaks, cracks, and elongated screw holes. Refer to para. 2-14 for
cleaning instructions. Replace if broken, cracked, or if holes are elongated more than 0.063 in.
(1.59 mm).

Clean two bushings (5) and measure thickness for wear. Use a micrometer and replace if inner
diameter exceeds 2.136 in. (54.25 mm).
NOTE
Perform step 6 only if bushings are to be replaced.
Remove bushings (5) from drum (4) and replace with new bushings (5).

Clean drum shaft (6) and measure diameter of all five bearing surfaces with micrometer. Replace if

outer diameter is less than 2.123 in. (53.92 mm) on any bearing surface.

Clean drum shaft gear (7) and inspect for broken, chipped, or scored teeth. Replace if teeth are
broken, chipped, or scored.
NOTE
Perform steps 9 and 10 only when shaft gear or drum shaft are to
be replaced.

Place in arbor press and, using a mandrel, press drum shaft (6) out of drum shaft gear (7).
NOTE
Remove drum shaft gear keys only if they are damaged. If
damaged, discard keys and install new keys.
Using arbor press, press drum shaft gear (7) on drum shaft (6) until keys (8) are centered in

gear (7).
Clean winch motor adapter (9) and inspect worm gear shaft (11) and worm gear bearings (10) for

breaks and cracks. Replace if broken or cracked.
Clean and inspect worm gear shaft (11) and worm gear bearings (10) for chips and breaks on worm

gear shaft (7), rough or chipped ball bearings, and races. Replace if ball bearings or races are rough
or chipped.
Inspect gearcase (12) for breaks and cracks. Replaced if broken or cracked.

Inspect gearcase cover (13) for breaks or cracks. Replace if broken or cracked.

Inspect automatic brake housing (14) for cracks. Replace if cracked.
Inspect brakedrum (15) for cracks and grooves. Replace if cracked or grooved.
16.
Inspect spring (16) for cracked or collapsed coils. Discard if coils are collapsed or cracked.
17.
Measure free length of spring (16). Discard spring (16) if free length is less than 11.5 in. (38 mm).
18.
Test spring (16) with spring tester and torque wrench. Discard if test reading is less than 52 lb-ft
19.
(71 Nm) when compressed to 1 in. (25.4 mm).
