General mechanic's tool kit (Appendix E, Item 1) EQUIPMENT CONDITION
Parking brake set (TM 9-2320-272-10).
Left splash shield removed (para. 3-301).
Steering gear stone shield removed (para. 3-238).
NOTE
Test equipment setup is the same for Ross and Sheppard steering
gears. This procedure covers the Ross steering gear.
NOTE
Have drainage container ready to catch oil.
1.
Disconnect hydraulic pressure line (5) from steering gear inlet elbow (8).
2.
Connect load shutoff valve (7) to steering gear inlet elbow (8).
3.
Connect tee adapter (6) to shutoff valve (7).
4.
Connect pressure gauge to tee adapter (6).
5.
Connect hydraulic pressure line (5) to tee adapter (6).
6.
Disconnect hydraulic return line (9) from return tube (1).
7.
Connect flow meter to return line (9).
8.
Connect top end of flow meter to return tube (1) on steering pump reservoir (3).
9.
Remove filler neck cover (4) from reservoir (3).
10.
Install thermometer in pump reservoir filler neck (2).

Remove thermometer from steering pump reservoir (3).
2.
Install filler neck cover (4) on pump reservoir filler neck (2).
NOTE
Have drainage container ready to catch oil.
3.
Disconnect hydraulic return line (9) from flow meter.
4.
Disconnect flow meter from return tube (1) on steering pump reservoir (3).
5.
Connect hydraulic return line (9) to return tube (1) on steering pump reservoir (3).
6.
Disconnect hydraulic pressure line (5) from tee adapter (6).
