EQUIPMENT CONDITION
Vise
l Parking brake set (TM 9-2320-272-10).
MATERIALS/PARTS
l Transfer case oil drained (LO 9-2320-272-12).
l Parking brakeshoes and dustcovers removed
Woodruff key (Appendix D, Item 727)
(paras. 3-176 and 3-177).
Snapring (Appendix D, Item 663)
Gasket sealant (Appendix C, Item 30)
a. Removal
NOTE
Speedometer drive gear cover screws are different lengths. Note
location and position for installation.
1.
Disconnect speedometer driveshaft (6) from drive adapter (5).
2.
Remove two screws (2), washers (1), four screws (7), washers (8), and speedometer drive gear
cover (9) from transfer case (13).
3.
Place speedometer drive gear cover (9) in soft-jawed vise.
4.
Remove drive adapter (5), driven shaft (4), and sleeve bushing (3) from speedometer drive gear
cover (9).
5.
Remove snapring (10), speedometer drive gear (11), and woodruff key (12) from intermediate
shaft (14). Discard snapring (10) and woodruff key (12).
b. Installation
1.
Install new woodruff key (12) and speedometer drive gear (11) on intermediate shaft (14) with new
snapring (10).
2.
Install sleeve bushing (3), driven shaft (4), and drive adapter (5) on speedometer drive gear cover (9).
3.
Apply gasket sealant on contact surface of speedometer drive gear cover (9) and install on transfer
case (13) with four washers (8), screws (7), two washers (1), and screws (2).
4.
Connect speedometer driveshaft (6) on drive adapter (5).
