MATERIALS/PARTS
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
l Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do
not use near open flame.
l Keep fire extinguisher nearby when using
drycleaning solvent.
1.
Remove cotter pin (6), pin (5), and transfer case shift rod (7) from shift shaft (4). Discard cotter
pin (6).
2.
Remove cotter pin (1), pin (3), and transfer case shift rod (7) from cross shaft lever (2). Discard
cotter pin (1).
b. Cleaning, Inspection, and Repair
WARNING
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do not use near open
flame and always have a fire extinguisher nearby when solvents
are used. Use only in well-ventilated places, wear protective
clothing, and dispose of cleaning rags in approved container.
Failure to do this may result in injury to personnel and/or damage
to equipment.
1.
Clean transfer case shift rod (7) with drycleaning solvent.
2.
Inspect transfer case shift rod (7) for cracks and breaks. Replace shift rod (7) if cracked or broken.
3.
Inspect valve cam (8) for cracks, breaks, and bends Replace valve cam (8) if cracked, broken, or
bent.
NOTE
Perform steps 4 through 7 if valve cam requires replacement.
4.
Place transfer case shift rod (7) in soft-jawed vise.
5.
Remove clevis (9), valve cam (8), washer (10), and jamnut (11) from shift rod (7).
6.
Install jamnut (11), washer (10), valve cam (8), and clevis (9) on shift rod (7). Do not tighten
jamnut (11).

Remove transfer case shift rod (7) from soft-jawed vise.
