4-83. TRANSFER CASE INTERLOCK AIR CYLINDER REPLACEMENT

EQUIPMENT CONDITION
l Parking brake set (TM 9-2320-272-10).
All
l Air reservoirs drained (TM 9-2320-272-10).
TOOLS
l Spare tire removed (M923/A1/A2, M929/A1/A2)
General mechanic's tool kit (Appendix E, Item 1)
(TM 9-2320-272-10).
l Dump body raised (TM 9-2320-272-10).
MATERIALS/PARTS
l Transfer case removed (M936/A1/A2)
Two lockwashers (Appendix D, Item 382)
Antiseize tape (Appendix C, Item 72)

Do not disconnect air lines before draining air

WARNING
Do not disconnect air lines before draining air reservoirs. Small
parts under pressure may shoot out with high velocity, causing
injury to personnel.
a. Removal
1.
Disconnect supply line (3) from elbow (2).
NOTE
l Perform step 2 for all vehicles except M936/A1/A2.
Interlock air cylinder is threaded in transfer case housing.

Remove two screws (7), lockwashers (6), and parking brake cable bracket (8) from transfer
case (5). Discard lockwashers (6).
3.
Remove interlock air cylinder (1) and push rod (4) from transfer case (5).
4.
Remove elbow (2) from interlock air cylinder (1).
b. Installation
NOTE
Wrap all male threads with antiseize tape before installation.
1.
Install elbow (2) on interlock air cylinder (1).
2.
Install push rod (4) and interlock air cylinder (1) on transfer case (5).
NOTE
Perform step 3 for all vehicles except M936/A1/A2.
3.
Install parking brake cable bracket (8) on transfer case (5) with two new lockwashers (6) and
screws (7).
4.
Connect supply line (3) to elbow (2).
