SPECIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
TOOLS
Work area must be clean and free from blowing dust
and dirt.
General mechanic's tool kit (Appendix E, Item 1)
Mechanical puller (Appendix E, Item 102)
MATERIALS/PARTS
Locknut (Appendix D, Item 325)
Oil seal (Appendix D, Item 503)
Lubricating oil (Appendix C, Item 48)
a. Removal
1.
Remove locknut (3) from output shaft (1). Discard locknut (3).
2.
Using mechanical puller, remove companion flange (2) from output shaft (1).
NOTE
Have drainage container ready to catch oil.
3.
Using output shaft seal and dust shield remover, remove dust shield (4) and oil seal (5) from bore of
transmission housing (6). Discard oil seal (5).
b. Installation
1.
Using oil seal installer and driver handle, install new oil seal (5) in bore of transmission housing (6).
Ensure rubber lip faces inside of rear cover (7).
2.
Apply lubricating oil to inside diameter of oil seal (5).
3.
Using dust shield installer and driver handle, install dust shield (4) in bore of transmission
housing (6) with cupped side facing out until installer tool seats on face of rear cover (7).
4.
Slide companion flange (2) on output shaft (1) and install with new locknut (3). Using torque
multiplier, tighten locknut (3) 600-800 lb-ft (814-1,085 Nlm).
