NOTE
Guide or alignment screws can be made from extra screws that
are longer and of the same thread size (appendix F, item 2).
Install four guide screws (1) at 9, 11, 1, and 3 o'clock positions on flywheel housing (1).

Position transmission jack under transmission (4) and raise until weight of transmission (4) is

supported by jack.
Remove eight remaining screws (6) and lockwashers (5) from flywheel housing (2) and

Keep rear of transmission tilted slightly downward at all times

personnel or damage to equipment.
Torque converter and transmission must be removed as an

assembly to prevent injury to personnel and damage to
converter.
Separate transmission (4) from flywheel housing (2), keep level until clear of guide screws (1), then

tilt rear of transmission (4) downward slightly to prevent converter (12) from separating from
transmission (4).
Remove gasket (3) from transmission (4) or flywheel housing (2). Discard gasket (3).

Install retaining strap (10) on converter (12) with two screws (13).
11.
Install retaining strap (10) on transmission (4) with four screws (11), washers (9), and nuts (8).

Remove four guide screws (1) from flywheel housing (2).

WARNING

Torque converter must be installed with transmission as an

converter.
Install four guide screws (1) at 9, 11, 1, and 3 o'clock positions on flywheel housing (2).

Place transmission (4) on transmission jack.
2.
Remove four nuts (8), washers (9), and screws (11) from retaining strap (10) and transmission (4).
3.
Remove two screws (13) and retaining strap (10) from converter (12).
4.
Position new gasket (3) on guide screws (1) and flywheel housing (2).
