4-63. WATER PUMP (M939/A1) MAINTENANCE (Contd)
NOTE
New replacement bearings are installed as they are removed from
packages, without cleaning or repacking. Original bearings,
approved by inspection for reuse, must be packed after cleaning
and inspection.
Pack bearing (3) with GM grease and coat shaft (1) with light coat of grease (TM 9-214).

Using arbor press and mandrel, press shaft (1) through bearing (3) until shoulder (2) of shaft (1)

bottoms on bearing (3).
Install snapring (4) in snapring groove (5) on shaft (1).

Install spacer (7) on shaft (1) and seat against bearing (3).

Using arbor press and mandrel, press bearing (6) over shaft (1) until seated against bearing (3).

NOTE
Carbon face of seal must be kept free of grease.
Coat new seal (9) with liquid soap to ease installation and, using mandrel, install seal (9) at

Position water pump body (8) on arbor press with bore (10) facing up.
