TM 9-2320-272-24-3
4-63. WATER PUMP (M939/A1) MAINTENANCE (Contd)
b. Cleaning and Inspection
WARNING
Eyeshields must be worn when cleaning with compressed air.
Compressed air source will not exceed 30 psi (207 kPa). Failure to
wear eyeshields may result in injury to personnel.
CAUTION
Rotate bearings very slowly while cleaning. Do not spin bearing
races with compressed air when drying bearings. Serious damage
to bearings could result.
NOTE
Service bearings in clean surroundings.
1.
Clean bearings (4) and (10), water pump body (5), shaft (3), and water pump impeller (12) (para. 2-14
and TM 9-214).
Inspect bearings (4) and (10) (para. 2-15 and TM 9-214).
2.
3.
Inspect spacer (9) for cracks and galls. Replace spacer (9) if cracked or galled.
4.
Inspect water pump impeller (12) for cracks and heavy corrosion. Replace impeller (12) if cracked.
Remove corrosion with wire brush. Refer to table 4-8 for critical measurement of bore.
Inspect shaft (3) for cracks, scoring, and galling. Replace shaft (3) if cracked or galled. Using
5.
micrometer, check outside diameter (O.D.). Refer to table 4-8 for shaft (3) wear limits.
6.
Inspect water pump body (5) for cracks, pits, and heavy corrosion. Replace water pump body (5) if
cracked, pitted, or heavily corroded. Using a snap gauge, check inside diameter (I.D.) of bore (11) for
wear. Refer to table 4-8 for bore (11) replacement wear limits.
