4-55. FUEL INJECTOR MAINTENANCE (Contd)
Fuel injector must be calibrated before installation (para. 4-56).
1.
Secure injector clamp (5) in soft-jawed vise.
Lubricate parts with clean diesel fuel before assembly. Do not use
lubricating oil. Oil can crystallize under excessive heat causing
damage to injector.
2.
Install injector (41 in injector clamp (5) with injector (4) facing upward.
3.
Install new injector sleeve (3) on injector (4).
4.
Install shim (9), pressure spring (l0), and pressure spindle (8) in injector (4).
5.
Install intermediate plate (6), needle valve (7), and injector nozzle (2) on injector (4) with nozzle
nut (1). Tighten nozzle nut (1) 20 lb-ft (27 Nm).
6.
Remove injector (4) from injector clamp (5).
7.
Remove injector clamp (5) from soft-jawed vice.
e. Installation
1.
Install new washer (13) on assembled injector (12).
2.
Remove cleaning cloth from injector bore (14).
Coat injector and injector bore with clean diesel fuel.
3.
Position injector clamp (16) into injector bore (14) of cylinder head (15).
4.
Install assembled injector (12) into injector bore (14) of cylinder head (15).
5.
Install injector clamp (16) and assembled injector (12) on cylinder head (15) with screw (11). Tighten
screw (11) 20 lb-ft (27 Nm).
