Remove pipe plug (10) from intake manifold (1).

Remove adapter (4) and plug (3) from air intake connector (8).

NOTE
Air connector is mounted with screw-assembled washers on late
model engines. Screws, lockwashers, and washers from early
model engines will be discarded and replaced with screw-
assembled washers.
Perform step 3 for late model engines.
Remove elbow (2) from air intake connector (8).

Remove two screws (6), lockwashers (7), washers (5), air intake connector (8), and gasket (9) from

intake manifold (1). Discard lockwashers (7) and gasket (9). Clean gasket remains from air intake
connector and intake manifold mating surfaces.
Brush and clean intake manifold (1) and air intake connector (8) and inspect for breaks, cracks, and

elongated holes. Replace if broken, cracked, or if holes are elongated (para. 4-1).
WARNING
Eyeshields must be worn when cleaning with compressed air.
Compressed air source will not exceed 30 psi (207 kPa). Failure to
do so may result in injury to personnel.
Clean internal passages of intake manifold (1) and air intake connector (8) with compressed air and

inspect threaded holes, screws, pipe plugs, and adapter for stripped or crossed threads. Repair or
replace if threaded parts have stripped or crossed threads (para. 4-1).
NOTE
Male pipe threads must be wrapped with antiseize tape before
installation.
Install adapter (4) and plug (3) in air intake connector (8).

Install pipe plug (10) in intake manifold (1).

NOTE
Perform step 3 for late model engines.
Install elbow (2) on air intake connector (8).

Install air intake connector (8) and new gasket (9) on intake manifold (1) with two screws (6),

lockwashers (7), and washers (5). Tighten screws (5) 25-30 lb-ft (34-41 Nm).
