Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do not use near open
flame and always have a fire extinguisher nearby when solvents
are used. Use only in well-ventilated places, wear protective
clothing, and dispose of cleaning rags in approved container.
Failure to do this may result in injury or death to personnel and/or
damage to equipment.
NOTE
To prevent hardening and drying of foreign substances, clean
cooler element as soon as possible after removal.
1.
Clean cooler housing (6) with drycleaning solvent and inspect for cracks and stripped threads.
Replace cooler housing (6) if cracked or threads are stripped.
2.
Soak and flush oil cooler element (4) with drycleaning solvent and inspect for broken and cracked
welds. Replace cooler element (4) if broken or cracked.
Eyeshields must be worn when cleaning with compressed air.
Compressed air source will not exceed 30 psi (207 kPa). Failure to
do so may result in injury to personnel.
3.
Immerse oil cooler element (4) in water, apply 30 psi (207 kPa) air pressure, and plug opposite end.
Replace oil cooler element (4) if air bubbles are observed.
1.
Align index marks on oil cooler element (4) and install in cooler housing (6).
NOTE
Apply engine oil to lubricate O-rings before installation.
2.
Install two new O-rings (7) and new retaining rings (8) in each end of cooler housing (6).
3.
Wrap end of elbow (1) with antiseize tape and install in end cover (10).
4.
Wrap pipe plug (5) with sealing tape and install in cooler housing (6).
5.
Install new gasket (9) and end cover (10) on cooler housing (6) with four new lockwashers (3) and
screws (2). Tighten screws (2) 30-35 lb-ft (41-47 Nm).
1.
Install new gasket (14) and oil cooler (17) on engine block (13) with five new lockwashers (15) and
screws (16). Tighten screws (16) 30-35 lb-ft (40-47 Nm).
2.
Connect new bushing (11) and air compressor coolant line (12) to oil cooler elbow (1).
3.
Install adapter (22) and shutoff valve (24) on oil cooler (17).
4.
Connect surge tank-to-oil cooler hose (20) and transmission cooler-to-oil cooler hose (18) to oil
cooler (17) with two clamps (19).
5.
Connect heater hose (21) to shutoff valve (24) with hose clamp (23).
