4.
Install
ring (5), spring (4), and two seat valves (3) in socket assembly (6).
5.
Install
adjustable plugs (2) and (15) loosely on steering assist cylinder (18) and socket assembly (6).
6.
Install
grease fittings (1) and (17) on steering assist cylinder (18).
7.
Install
two adapter elbows (11) on steering assist cylinder (18).
d. Installation
NOTE
Do not reuse hydraulic oil.
Remove all caps and plugs prior to installation.
1.
Install nut (21) and new cotter pin (19) on ball stud (22).
2.
Install dustcovers (13) and (20) and felt pads (14) on ball studs (12) and (22).
3.
Position steering assist cylinder (18) on steering knuckle ball stud (22) and spring shackle
ball stud (12).
4.
Perform travel adjustment task e. on steering assist cylinder (18).
5.
Tighten adjustable plugs (2) and (15) until they bottom out, back out one turn, and align and install
6.
Install pressure return hoses (9) and (10) on elbows (11).
7.
Fasten dustcovers (13) and (20) around steering assist cylinder (18) and socket assembly (6).
e. Trave1 Adjustment
NOTE
To check for proper travel adjustment, measure the distance from
center of ball stud to center of ball stud for a distance of 25.50 in.
(64.8 cm). If adjustment is incorrect, the front wheels must be
raised prior to performing the following steps.
1.
Loosen nut (23), screw (8), and clamp (7) from socket assembly (6).
2.
Turn socket assembly (6) counterclockwise to increase steering assist cylinder (18) travel; clockwise
to decrease cylinder (18) travel.
3.
Tighten nut (23) 30-40 lb-ft (41-54 Nm).
