3-225. WHEEL BEARING ADJUSTMENT (Contd)
Raise vehicle until tire (1) is clear off the ground.

Remove ten screws (7) and washers (6) from axle shaft (5).

Install two screws (7) into threaded holes (8) and remove axle shaft (5) and gasket (4) from

hub (9). Discard gasket (4).
Remove two screws (7) from axle shaft (5).

Remove outer bearing locknut (3) and outer bearing washer (2) from axle housing (9).
5.
While turning hub (ll), tighten bearing adjusting nut (10) 50 lb-ft (68 Nm).

Back out bearing adjusting nut (10) 1/6 - l/4 turn so outer bearing washer (2) can be positioned to

axle housing (9) and adjusting nut insert (11).
Install outer bearing washer (2) and outer bearing locknut (3) on hub (11). Tighten outer bearing

locknut (3) 250-400 lb-ft (339-542 Nm).
Apply sealant to mating surfaces of axle shaft (5).

Install new gasket (4) and axle shaft (5) on hub (11) with ten washers (6) and screws (7). Tighten

screws (7) 60-100 lb-ft (81-136 Nm).
Lower vehicle until tire is on ground.

FOLLOW-ON TASKS: Release caged spring brake(s) (TM 9-2320-272-10).
Road test vehicle (TM 9-2320-272-10).
