4-153. REAR WINCH ROLLER REPAIR (Contd)
c. Cleaning and Inspection
WARNING
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do not use near
open flame and always have a fire extinguisher nearby when
solvents are used. Use only in well-ventilated places, wear
protective clothing, and dispose of cleaning rags in approved
container. Failure to do this may result in injury or death to
personnel and damage to equipment.
1.
Clean roller (6) and shafts (8) and (17) assemblies with drycleaning solvent and allow to air-dry.
2.
Inspect shafts (8) and (17) for cracks. Replace shafts (8) and (17), if cracked.
3.
Measure bearing surfaces of shafts (8) and (17). If outer diameter of bearing surfaces of shafts (8)
and (17) is less than 2.245 in. (57.02 mm), replace.
4.
Inspect two thrust washers (3) and (21) for cracks. Replace thrust washers (3) and (21) if cracked.
5.
Measure thickness of thrust washers (3) and (21). If thickness of thrust washers (3) and (21) is less
than 0.055 in. (1.40 mm), replace.
6.
Inspect two bearings (5) and (23) for damage (TM 9-214). If bearings (5) or (23) are damaged,
replace.
d. Top and Bottom Roller Assembly
1.
Pack two bearings (5) with grease and install in roller (6).
2.
Soak two new felt washers (4) in lubricating oil prior to installation. Position two felt washers (4)
and thrust washers (3) on each end of roller (6).
NOTE
Assistant will help with steps 3 and 4.
3.
Slide roller (6), bearing (5), felt washers (4), and thrust washer (3) between brackets (12).
4.
Install shaft (8) through brackets (12) and roller (6).
5.
Align lockplate (9) with shaft (8) and install with two new lockwashers (11) and screws (10).
6.
Install two grease fittings (7) on shaft (8).
7.
Install two grease fittings (2) on tensioner sheave shaft (1).
NOTE
Install left side roller if removed (task e.).
e. Side Roller Assembly
1.
Install two grease fittings (16) on shaft (17).
2.
Install spacer (25) on bracket (15) with plate (14), two new lockwashers (26), and screws (13).
3.
Pack two bearings (23) with grease and install in roller (24).
4.
Soak two new felt washers (22) in lubricating oil prior to installation. Position two felt washers (22)
and thrust washers (21) on each end of roller (24).
NOTE
Assistant will help with steps 5 and 6.
5.
Slide roller (24), bearing (23), felt washers (22), and thrust washers (21) into bracket (15).
6.
Install shaft (17) through bracket (15) and roller (24). Make sure locking slot is at bottom.
7.
Align lockplate (20) with shaft (17) and install with two new lockwashers (19) and screws (18).
