Parking brake set (TM 9-2320-272-10).
General mechanic's tool kit (Appendix E, Item 1)
Left splash shield removed (para. 3-301).
Torque wrench (Appendix E, Item 144)
Drag link removed (para. 3-229).

a. Sector Shaft Adjustment
NOTE
Assistant will rotate steering wheel.
1.
Rotate steering wheel (1) full travel in both directions and note halfway point.
2.
Position steering wheel (1) at halfway point, and loosen jamnut (5) on right side of steering gear (2).
3.
Tighten sector shaft adjusting screw (6) 10 lb-ft (14 Nm).
4.
Turn sector shaft adjusting screw (6) counterclockwise one full turn.
5.
Holding adjusting screw (6), tighten jamnut (5) 40-45 lb-ft (54-61 Nm).
b. Wormshaft Adjustment
1.
Loosen jamnut (3) on wormshaft adjusting screw (4) on front of steering gear (2).
2.
Loosen wormshaft adjusting screw (4) one full turn counterclockwise.
3.
Tighten wormshaft adjusting screw (4) 5-6 lb-ft (7-8 Nm).
4.
Holding adjusting screw (4), tighten jamnut (3) 70-80 lb-ft (95-109 Nm).
NOTE
Assistant will rotate steering wheel.
5.
Rotate steering wheel (1) slightly in both directions and check for pulsations. If pulsations are felt,
repeat steps 1 through 5.
