Ensure impeller and turbine shaft balance marks are aligned.
Failure to do so may result in damage to engine.
15.
Install impeller (6) on turbine shaft (2) as follows:
a. Align balance mark on impeller (6) with balance mark on turbine shaft (1).
b. Install impeller (6) on turbine shaft (1) with new left-hand thread locknut (9). Tighten
locknut (9) 12 lb-in. (1.4 Nm).

Install bearing housing (2) into turbine housing (13) and align scribe marks.
Coat threads of four new screws with antiseize compound.
17.
Install two new lockplates (11) and clamping plates (12) on turbine housing (13) with four new
screws (10). Bend four tabs of two lockplates (11) against four screws (10).
18.
Align scribe marks on diffuser (8) to scribe marks on bearing housing (2).
19.
Install two new lockplates (15) into diffuser (8) with four new screws (14). Bend four tabs of two
lockplates (15) against four screws (14).
Failure to obtain proper end play or radial clearance may result in
damage to engine.
20.
Check turbine shaft (1) for end play:
a. Install turbine housing (13) in soft-jawed vise.
b. Install dial indicator on bearing housing (2) so dial indicator plunger is against turbine shaft (1).
c. Push turbine shaft (1) into bearing housing (2) and set dial indicator to read zero.
d. Pull turbine shaft (1) away from bearing housing (2) and read dial indicator.
e. End play must measure between 0.001-0.003 in. (0.03-0.08 mm).
f. If end play is not within normal range, disassemble turbocharger and inspect turbine shaft
(tasks a and b).

Check radial clearance:
a. Place dial indicator plunger against impeller (6), just below locknut (9).
b. Push impeller (6) away from dial indicator and set dial indicator to read zero.
c. Pull impeller (6) toward dial indicator and take reading.
d. Radial clearance must measure between 0.012-0.018 in. (0.305-0.457 mm).
e. If radial clearance is not within normal range, disassemble bearing housing (2) and inspect
thrust collar (tasks a and b).
f. Remove dial indicator from bearing housing (2).

Coat threads of clamp (5) with antiseize compound and install nut (4) on clamp (5). Do not tighten
nut (4).
23.
Install new O-ring (7), clamp (5), and compressor housing (3) and align scribe marks on compressor
housing to turbine housing (13).
24.
Tighten nut (4) 120 lb-in. (13.6 Nm).
