4-57. FUEL INJECTION PUMP MAINTENANCE (Contd)
Perform steps 1 through 4 to ensure fuel injection pump timing is
correct.
Remove plug (6), copper washer (5), and timing pin (4) from fuel injection pump (3).

Install nut (1) on shaft (8).

Assistant will help with step 3.

If timing tooth (14) is not aligned with timing pin hole (13), rotate fuel pump shaft (8) until timing
tooth (14) aligns with timing pin hole (13).
4.
Remove nut (1) from shaft (8).
Reverse timing pin (4) and install slot of timing pin (4) over timing tooth (14).
5.
Install copper washer (5) and plug (6) on fuel pump (3).
6.
Perform steps 7 through 9 if new injection pump was installed.
7.
Install two new copper washers (22) and fitting (20) on fuel pump (3) with screw (21).
8.
Install control lever (16) on shaft (15) with two screws (17).
9.
Install fuel shutoff lever (19) on fuel injection pump (3) with two screws (18).
10.
Install new O-rings (24) and (23) on fuel injection pump (3).
Install fuel injection pump (3) on four mounting studs (2) with nuts (7).
11.
Install fuel pump gear (11) on fuel injection pump (3) with new lockwasher (12) and nut (1).
12.
Disengage engine timing pin (9) from camshaft gear (10).
13.
Remove plug (6), copper washer (5), and timing pin (4) from fuel injection pump (3). Discard copper

washer (5).
15.
Reverse timing pin (4) so slot of timing pin (4) faces outward from fuel injection pump (3).
16.
Install new copper washer (5) and plug (6) on fuel injection pump (3).
Assistant will help with step 17.
17.
Using engine barring tool to prevent flywheel (25) from turning, tighten nut (1) 60 lb-ft (81 N-m).
Remove engine barring tool and install new O-ring (27) and plug (28) in flywheel housing (26).
