Oil seal kit (Appendix D, Item 506)
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do
not use near an open flame.
Gasket (Appendix D, Item 195)
Drycleaning solvent (Appendix C, Item 71)
Keep fire extinguisher nearby when using
drycleaning solvent.
Rags (Appendix C, Item 58)
Sealing compound (Appendix C, Item 68)
a. Removal
NOTE
Gearcase mounting screws are different lengths. Tag locations of
screws for installation.
1.
Remove twenty-two screws (1) from gearcase cover (5) and gear housing (2).
2.
Remove gearcase cover (5) and gasket (4) from gear housing (2). Discard gasket (4).
3.
Remove oil seal (6) from gearcase cover (5). Discard oil seal (6).
b. Cleaning and Inspection

WARNING
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do not use near open
flame and always have a fire extinguisher nearby when solvents
are used. Use only in well-ventilated places, wear protective
clothing, and dispose of cleaning rags in approved container.
Failure to do this may result in injury or death to personnel and/or
damage to equipment.
3.
Clean sealing surface of crankshaft (3) with drycleaning solvent. Dry with clean rag.
c. Installation
1.
Apply sealing compound to mating surfaces of gearcase cover (5) and gear housing (2).
2.
Install new gasket (4) and gearcase cover (5) on gear housing (2) with twenty-two screws (1). Finger-
tighten screws (1).
3.
Install alignment tool on crankshaft (3) to align gearcase cover (5).
4.
Tighten twenty-two screws (1) 20 lb-ft (27 Nm).
5.
Remove alignment tool from crankshaft (3).
