b. Injector and Valve Adjustment
NOTE
l Before adjusting injectors and valves, check if rocker housings
are cast iron or aluminum, so that the correct clearance setting
l During rebuild, injectors and valves are "cold set" with oil and
component parts temperature within 10 (-12C) of ambient air
or room temperature.
l The injector and valve adjusting procedures below and the
referenced "table of specifications" require that the injectors be
adjusted before the valves.
Loosen locknut (3) on injector rocker lever (1) and hold locknut (3) with wrench.

Turn adjusting screw (2) down until top of plunger (4) contacts cup (5).

Advance adjusting screw (2) 15 degrees to squeeze oil from cup (5).

Back adjusting screw (2) out one full turn. Ensure spring retainer (8) is against adjusting

screw (6) of injector (7).
NOTE
Use torque wrench to adjust injectors. Set the torque wrench on
value required and pull to zero. Break adjusting screw loose each
time, and pull to torque value shown in each tightening pass.
Tighten adjusting screw (2), making two or three passes with torque wrench, to values listed in
5.
NOTE
Perform step 6 for top-stop injectors.
Tighten adjusting screw (2) 5-6 lb-in. (0.6-0.7 N-m).

Tighten locknut (3) 40-45 lb-ft (54-61 Nm).
