NOTE
New replacement bearings are installed as they are removed from
packages, without cleaning or repacking. Original bearings,
approved by inspection for reuse, must be packed after cleaning
and inspection.
Apply light coat of clean GAA grease to shaft (1).

Pack bearing (3) with GAA grease (TM 9-214).

Using arbor press and mandrel, press shaft (1) down through bearing (3) until shoulder (2) bottoms

on bearing (3).
Install snapring (4) in ring groove (5) on shaft (1).

Install spacer (7) on shaft (1) and seat against bearing (3).
5.
Press bearing (6) over shaft (1) with arbor press and mandrel until seated against spacer (7).

Coat new water pump seal (9) with detergent to ease installation. Ensure carbon face on new water

pump seal (9) is free of grease.
Using mandrel, install new water pump seal (9) at impeller end of water pump body (8).

Place water pump body (8) on arbor press with bore (10) facing upward.

Position shaft assembly (1) in water pump body (8) and align straight with bore (10).

Press shaft assembly (1) into water pump body (8) with mandrel.
11.
Install new snapring (11) in bore (10) of snapring groove (12).
12.
Install new relief fitting (17) in hole (18) on water pump body (8).
13.
CAUTION
Water pumps are lubricated only after rebuild. The lubrication
passages are normally kept plugged to prevent over-greasing
which can cause seal blowout and damage to water pump.
NOTE
The following procedure must be maintained as described to
prevent water pump damage.
Grease fitting is installed in water pump body passage
temporarily to fill water pump cavity with lubricant.
Install a grease fitting (14) in passage (13) of water pump body (8).

Fill water pump body (8) with 0.60-0.70 cu in. (0.31-0.37 oz) of GM grease. Ensure grease does not

come in contact with shaft (15).
Remove grease fitting (14) from passage (13) of water pump body (8). Discard grease fitting (14).
16.
Install new plug (16) in passage (13) and tighten securely.
