Table 4-1. Mechanical Troubleshooting (Contd).
MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Step 3. If hydraulic system oil temperature is greater than 32F (0C), proceed to step 5.
Step 4. If hydraulic system oil temperature is 32F (0C) or colder, start engine (TM 9-2320-272-10),
engage PTO, allow hydraulic oil to circulate for 15 minutes with dump control in the neutral
position, set idle at 800 rpm, and proceed to step 6.
Step 5. Start engine and set idle at 800 rpm (TM 9-2320-272-10).
Step 6. Engage PTO and place dump lever in raised position.
Step 7. Record pressure and flow readings.
a. M929/A1/A2 normal readings:
Flow rate - 5 gpm (18.9 Lpm) or greater
Pressure - 1,400-1,600 psi (9,653-11,032 kPa)
(1) If readings are normal, proceed to step 10.
(2) If pressure is less than 1,600 psi (11,032 kPa), and flow rate is less than 5 gpm
(18.9 Lpm), proceed to step 9.
(3) If pressure is greater than 1,600 psi (11,032 kPa), proceed to step 10.
(4) If pressure is less than 1,400 psi (9,653 kPa), replace control valve (para. 4-151).
Repeat steps 2 through 7.
b. M929/A1/A2 normal readings:
Flow rate - 5 gpm (18.9 Lpm) or greater
Pressure - 1,650-1,850 psi (11,377-12,756 kPa)
(1) If readings are normal, proceed to step 10.
(2) If pressure is less than 1,850 psi (12,756 kPa), and flow rate is less than 5 gpm
(18.9 Lpm), proceed to step 9.
(3) If pressure is greater than 1,850 psi (12,756 kPa), proceed to step 10.
(4) If pressure is less than 1,650 psi (11,377 kPa), replace control valve (para. 4-151).
Repeat steps 2 through 7.
Step 8. Remove test kit components:
a. Remove air pressure gauge (13) with hose (11) from reducer (9).
b. Remove hose (11) and connector (12) from air pressure gauge (13).
c. Remove hose (7) from connector (4) and adapter (5) at winch pump (6).
d. Remove connector (4), flowmeter (3), reducer (9), nut (10), and connector (8) from tee (2).
e. Remove tee (2) and nipple (14) from elbow (15) at control valve (1).
