d. Installation
NOTE
Ensure double-lip seal is placed outward.
Using long end of air seal installer, install new air seal (12) on hub (6), with spring facing out, until

seated in hub (6).
Using short end of air seal installer, install new air seal (12) on hub (6), with spring facing inward,

until seated in hub (6).
Install snapring (11) on hub (6).

CAUTION
Ensure bearings are matched with bearing cups before
installation, or damage to bearings may result.
NOTE
Pack inner and outer bearings with GAA grease prior to
l
installation.
Pack inner rubber section of hub seal with GAA grease.
l
Install inner bearing (14) and new hub seal (13) on hub (6).

CAUTION
Do not allow hub assembly to slide directly over threaded end of
spline. Damage to air seals may result.
NOTE
Assistant will help with step 5.

Install hub (6), outer bearing (4), and bearing adjusting nut (3) on spindle (5).

While rotating hub (6), tighten bearing adjusting nut (3) 50 lb-ft (68 Nm).
Back out bearing adjusting nut (3) 1/8 to 1/4 turn so washer (2) can be aligned with slot on

spindle (5) and locking pin on adjusting nut (3).
8.
Install washer (2) and outer bearing nut (1) on spindle (5). Tighten outer bearing nut (1) 250-400 lb-ft
(339-542 Nm).
9.
Apply sealant to mating surface of hub (6) and inside of flange on axle shaft (7).
Install axle shaft (7) on hub (6) with ten new lockwashers (8) and screws (9). Tighten screws (9)
10.
60-100 lb-ft (81-136 Nm).
Install brake drum (10) on hub (6).
11.
