General mechanic's tool kit (Appendix E, Item 1)
Wheel valve removed (para. 4-456 or 4-457).
MATERIALS/PARTS
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Relay valve kit (Appendix D, Item 530)
Filter (Appendix D, Item 122)
Eyeshields must be worn during disassembly.
Antiseize tape (Appendix C, Item 72)
a. Disassembly
1.
Remove filter (9) from valve body (10). Discard filter (9).
WARNING
Wheel valve cover is under spring tension. Wear eye protection
when disassembling wheel valve, or injury to personnel may result.
2.
Holding cover (4) in place, remove four nuts (12), screw-assembled lockwasher (1), and three screw-
assembled lockwashers (2) from base (11), valve body (10), and cover (4). Discard screw-assembled
lockwashers (1) and (2).
3.
Carefully remove cover (4), spring (5), plug (6), diaphragm (7), and base (11) from valve
body (10). Discard spring (5) and diaphragm (7).
4.
Remove ball (3) from cover (4). Discard ball (3).
5.
Remove tank valve (8) from valve body (10).
b. Cleaning and Inspection
1.
For general cleaning instructions, refer to para. 2-14.
2.
For general inspection instructions, refer to para. 2-15.
3.
Inspect base (11), valve body (10), cover (4), and tank valve (8) for cracks and stripped threads.
Replace part(s) if damaged.
c. Assembly
NOTE
Wrap male threads with antiseize tape before installation.
1.
Install tank valve (8) on valve body (10).
2.
Install new ball (3) in cover (4).
3.
Position base (11), new diaphragm (7), plug (6), new spring (5), and cover (4) on valve body (10).
Carefully hold in place.
4.
Install three new screw-assembled lockwashers (2), new screw-assembled lockwasher (1), and four
nuts (12) on cover (4), valve body (10), and base (11).
5.
Install new filter (9) in valve body (10).
