3-326. WINCH CABLE CLEVIS REPLACEMENT (Cont)
b. Installation
WARNING
Top seizing must not be less than 5.0 in. (12.7 cm) from end of
cable. Faulty installation will cause cable failure and may result
in injury or death to personnel.
Place cable (1) in vise with 5-1/2 in. (14.0 cm) of cable (1) above jaws of vise.

Measure 5.0 in. (12.7 cm) below end of cable (1). Beginning at this point, wrap 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) of
mechanic' wire (2) around cable (1) toward vise. Twist ends of mechanic' wire (2) together and

bend flat in a groove of cable (1).
NOTE
If cable is wire-core type, proceed to step 5.

Unravel six strands (3) of cable (1) above vise.
4.
Cut off hemp core (4) as close to vise as possible.

Wrap upper ends of strands (3) with mechanic' wire (2).

NOTE
Approximately 1-3/8 in. (3.5 cm) of cable should extend above
threaded sleeve.
Place threaded sleeve (5) over end of cable (1) and seat against mechanic' wire (2).

Remove cable (1) from vise and reclamp on the hex-flats of threaded sleeve (5).
Remove upper wire (6) from cable (1).

NOTE
l Use P/N 7071906 plug for hemp core cable. Use P/N 7071871
plug for wire core cable.
l Perform step 10 for wire-core type cable.

Drive plug (7) into center of cable (1) and into threaded sleeve (5). Align strands (3) with grooves in
plug (7).

Slide plug (8) over core wire (9) and down onto cable (1), align strands (3) with grooves of
plug (8), and drive plug (8) into cable (1) and threaded sleeve (5).

Place clevis socket (10) over end of cable (1) and install on threaded sleeve (5). Tighten clevis
socket (10) on threaded sleeve (5) until only 3 to 5 threads are exposed. Ensure cable (1) is visible
through inspection hole (11) of clevis socket (10).
NOTE
Refer to TB 43-0142 for cable and clevis assemblies that must be
proof-load tested.
