Tag strut for installation.
9.
Remove two nuts (10), lockwashers (9), screws (5), and lower strut (4) from top frame (11). Discard
lockwashers (9).
10.
Remove two nuts (6), lockwashers (7), torque rod (8), sleeve (12), two springs (2), and upper strut (1)
from top frame (11). Discard lockwashers (7).
11.
Remove pin (16) from crank (14).
12.
Remove crank (14) and washer (13) from swivel nut (17) on bracket (15).
b. Inspection and repair
1.
Inspect sheet metal parts, springs, brackets, struts, and pins for breaks, bends, and cracks.
Replace if broken, bent, or cracked (TM 9-237).
2.
Inspect crank (14), crank adjuster swivel nut (17), torque rod (8), and screws (5) for damaged
threads. Replace if damaged.
3.
Inspect shock absorber (18) for damage. Replace if damaged.
4.
Inspect adjusters (19) and crank (14) for breaks, bends, and cracks. Replace if broken, bent, or
cracked (TM 9-237).
c. Installation
1.
Install washer (13) and crank (14) on top frame (11) and swivel nut (17) with pin (16).
2.
Apply light coat of GAA grease to eight strut bushings (3) and torque rod (8).
3.
Install lower strut (4) on top frame (11) with two screws (5), new lockwashers (9), and nuts (10).
NOTE
Torque rod can be installed through one side only.
4.
Install sleeve (12), two springs (2), and upper strut (1) on top frame (11) with torque rod (8), two
new lockwashers (7), and nuts (6).
