WARNING
Eyeshields must be worn during cleaning procedure. Failure to
wear eyeshields may result in injury to personnel.
1.
Clean water manifold sections (1), (6), and (10), and couplings (4) and (8) with wire brush and
inspect. Replace if broken or cracked.
2.
Check heater shutoff drainvalve (11) for proper opening and closing. Replace if defective.
3.
Test water temperature sending unit (12) (para. 3-93). Replace if defective.
1.
Wrap male threaded ends of water temperature sending unit (12) and heater shutoff drainvalve (11)
with antiseize tape and install in front water manifold section (10).
2.
Apply light coat of GAA grease to new O-ring (9) and install on front coupling (8).
3.
Install one end of front coupling (8) in bore of front water manifold section (10) until O-ring (9) is
seated.
4.
Apply light coat of GAA grease to new O-ring (7) and install on front coupling (8).
5.
Install bore of center water manifold section (6) over end of front coupling (8) until seated against
O-ring (7).
6.
Apply light coat of GAA grease to new O-ring (5) and install on rear coupling (4).
7.
Install one end of rear coupling (4) in bore of center water manifold section (6) until O-ring (5) is
seated.
8.
Wrap male threaded end of ether start safety valve (2) with antiseize tape and install in rear water
manifold section (1).
9.
Apply light coat of GM grease to new O-ring (3) and install on rear coupling (4).
10.
Install rear water manifold section (1) bore over end of rear coupling (4) until seated against
O-ring (3).
NOTE
Ensure all cylinder head water ports are unplugged.
1.
Apply light coat of GAA grease to six new O-rings (18) and install in each cylinder head water
port (19).
2.
Install water manifold (21) on cylinder heads (20) with twelve new screw-assembled lockwashers (22).
Alternately tighten screw-assembled lockwashers (22) 30-35 lb-ft (41-47 Nm).
3.
Install ether cylinder on safety valve line (14) and safety valve-to-atomizer line (13) on ether start
safety valve (2) at same points where disconnected.
4.
Connect connector (15) to water temperature sending unit (12).
5.
Connect personnel heater inlet hose (17) to heater shutoff drainvalve (11) with hose clamp (16).
