3-455. RELIEF SAFETY VALVE MAINTENANCE (Contd)
c. Cleaning and Inspection
1.
For general cleaning instructions, refer to para. 2-14.

For general inspection instructions, refer to para 2-15.

Inspect relief safety valve (3) and adapter (13) for cracks, breaks, or stripped threads. Replace relief
safety valve (3) and/or adapter (13) if damaged.
4.
Inspect hose (14) and duckbill (15) for cracks, tears, or deterioration. Replace hose (14) and/or
duckbill (15) if damaged.
NOTE
M936A2 model vehicles have spacer.
5.
Inspect spacer (6), bracket (10), and clamp (16) for cracks, bends, and excessive corrosion. Replace
spacer (6), bracket (10), or clamp (16) if damaged.
6.
Inspect all fittings for stripped threads. Replace if threads are stripped.
1.
Install hose (14) and duckbill (15) on adapter (13) with clamp (16).
2.
Install new O-ring (17) and adapter (13) on relief safety valve (3).
e. Installation
1.
Install bracket (10) on frame (9) with washer (7), screw (8), washer (11), and nut (12). Install
spacer (6) (M936A2 vehicles only).
2.
Install safety relief valve (3) on bracket (10) with two washers (2), screws (1), washers (4), and
nuts (5).
NOTE
q Wrap all male pipe threads with antiseize tape before
installation.
q Perform steps 3 through 5 for rear-rear axle exhaust valve.
Install reducers (19) and (23) and elbows (18), (24), and (20) on relief safety valve (3).

Connect air lines (26) and (25) to elbows (18) and (24).

Insert new sleeve (21) on air line (22), and connect air line (22) to elbow (20).
NOTE
Perform steps 6 through 8 for forward-rear axle relief safety valve.
Install reducers (36) and (33), elbows (27) and (34), and tee (30) on relief safety valve (3).

Connect air lines (37) and (35) on elbows (27) and (34).
Insert new sleeves (29) and (31) on air lines (28) and (32), and connect air lines (28) and (32) to

tee (30).
NOTE
Perform steps 9 through 11 for front axle relief safety valve.
Install reducers (41) and (43), connectors (46) and (44), and elbow (42) on relief safety valve (3).
9.
Connect air lines (38) and (45) to connectors (46) and (44).
10.
Insert new sleeve (40) on air line (39), and connect air line (39) to elbow (42).
