3-391. CRANE HYDRAULIC FILTER MAINTENANCE (Contd)
c. Cleaning and Inspection
Drycleaning solvent is flammable and toxic. Do not use near
open flame and always have a fire extinguisher nearby when
solvents are used. Use only in well-ventilated places, wear
protective clothing, and dispose of cleaning rags in approved
container. Failure to do this may result in injury to personnel
and damage to equipment.
Eyeshields must be worn when cleaning with compressed air.
Compressed air source will not exceed 30 psi (207 kPa). Failure
to do so may result in injury to personnel.
1.
Using drycleaning solvent, clean filter cover (12), rear cap (1), front cap (8), filter element (4), and
shroud (5) and dry with compressed air.
2.
Inspect filter cover (12), rear cap (1), front cap (8), filter element (4), and shroud (5) for cracks,
holes, and excessive wear. Replace damaged or worn parts.
d. Assembly
1.
Install filter element (4) over shroud (5).
2.
Position new ring seal (7) on front cap (8) and install front cap (8) on filter element (4).
3.
Position rear cap (1) on opposite end of filter element (4), align holes (3) and (6), and install with
three screws (2).
4.
Install new O-ring (13) on filter cover (12).
5.
Place filter cover (12) on flat surface.
6.
Align key (11) of filter cover (12) with slot (10) of filter assembly (9) and install filter assembly (9) on
filter cover (12).
e. Installation
1.
Install new O-ring (14) sideways in filter housing (15). Rotate and seat into position when O-ring (14)
contacts rear of filter housing (15).
WARNING
Hydraulic filter assembly is under great pressure and oil will
spurt out from housing during installation. Wear eyeshields
during installation of assembly. Failure to do this may cause
injury to personnel.
CAUTION
Indicator must be level and on the right side of filter housing
during installation. Filter assembly will not seat if indicator is
improperly seated.
Do not reuse hydraulic oil from drainage container. Damage to
equipment may result if drained oil is used.
NOTE
Mechanic must seat filter cover quickly and hold in place while
assistant installs screws.
Have drainage container ready to catch oil.
2.
Position filter cover (12) with filter assembly (9) just inside filter housing (15).
3.
Push filter cover (12) quickly into filter housing (15) and install with four screws (16).
