Torque wrench (Appendix E, Item 144)
Parking brake ret (TM 9-2920-272-10).
Wheel adjusting tools
Tires properly inflated (TM 9-2820-272-10).
MATERIALS/PARTS
Two adjustments screws (Appendix D, Item 571)
Two jamnuts (Appendix D, Item 264)
1.
Position front wheels straight ahead.
2.
Place alignment device 3 in. (7.6 mm) from outer tire surface of left front wheel (1).
3.
Place turning radius gauge against outer tire surface.
4.
Center pointer with wheel (1) and align to 0 degree mark on bare scale.
5.
Turn left front wheel (1) to outward stop and read degrees of travel on bare scale. Scale reading
should be 28 degrees. If scale reading is not correct, perform turning angle adjustment (task b.).
b. Turning Angle Adjustment
1.
Break welds and remove screw (4) and jamnut (6) from left steering knuckle (2). Discard screw (4)
and jamnut (6).
2.
Thread new nut (5) all the way on new screw (4).
3.
Thread screw (4) all the way into tie rod arm (6), then all the way out, until screw (4) contacts axle
housing (3). Screw (4) now becomes turn angle stop.
4.
While holding screw (4), turn jamnut (5) until it contacts tie rod arm (6). Tighten nut (5) 66-86 lb-ft
(88-116 Nm).
5.
Tack-weld nut (6) to screw (4) and back of tie rod arm (6).
NOTE
Repeat task a. to check right front wheel turning angle
adjustment.
